Equipped with such a prospective audio and video system, there will be various kinds of performances with different forms in this lab, such as the presentations of interactive audio and video works, dance performances, holographic projection, touching across the space, etc., which all meet our future development of the interactive subjects in our college of design and innovation.”
This case is placed on the second floor of the Practicing Building in of the college of design and innovation at Shanghai Tongji University. It is a prospective lab. The lab integrates functions of experiment creativity, manufacture platform and dynamic image capture. Performances in different styles like electronic music, traditional music can be showed in this lab, and the studio combines image, sound and lighting controlling the interaction between various kinds of media and artistic works. SWD Group is responsible for the design of the audio system and room acoustics design of this lab.
As for room design, the grey-based solution is applied. Black and grey Zsound Acoustics acoustics panelsare installed on the ceiling and the side walls. Such color choice makes it easy to realize eye focusing and avoids color contrast and distortion.
As for the design of sound insulation, since the environment around the studio is comparatively quiet, only one mobile partition door has been used. For one thing, it can segment the functional areas, for another, it can reduce the noise conflict when the two areas are used separately.
As for acoustic processing, to make this lab adapt to all kinds of music and performing forms, SWD Group endowed the concept of “adjustable sound field” , which becomes the biggest highlight of this case. 20 electric controlled special acoustic modules were installed on the right side of the room. These modules can be adjusted in 360 degree according to different acoustic requirements, which can not only choose fixed degree, but also adjust to accurate degree according to practical demands. The variation range of reverberation time is from 0.6s to 1.0s.
As for the system configuration, the studio adopts 8.1 channel surround sound system arranged like the Chinese character“米”. It achieves the interaction between 4 channels’ and 8 channels’ music works and can inspire students to design electronic music.
